So I will tell you now about the first time that I had a paranormal experience. It was a year after my grandpa passed away. I was his only granddaughter, so naturally he spoiled me rotten, we had such a close relationship and I still miss him to this day, I probably will forever. My grandma, missed him so much as well. But after a year she started to go out and do more of her hobbies that she neglected since he died. She is Italian and an artist, so she booked a trip to Italy with her art class, she asked me to stay at her house while she was gone to watch her dog. So I did, for about a week. I have spent the night at my grandparents house often but never when it was just me. I sleep with a fan, for background noise, it helps me sleep. I had asked my grandma if she had a fan and she said that she did so I thought no more of it. I should have been more specific because the fan that she said she had was the ceiling fan that made no noise and was located in her bedroom.
One, I didn’t plan on sleeping in my grandparents bed, there is no way that I would ever sleep in their bed, for the same reason that I would never sleep in my parents bed. She has a guest room that I planned on sleeping in. Two, when I mentioned the fan, I meant one that makes noise, so I could have that white noise in the background. The ceiling fan made absolutely no noise. I got to their house after work on a Tuesday since that was the day her plane left, I didn’t realize that there was no fan until I started getting ready for bed. By that time it was too late to do anything about it, I lived about a half hour away from her and I was not about to go home and come back just for a fan. I decided to put my big girl pants on and deal with it.
I couldn’t fall asleep, I stayed awake listening to the noises of the house. All the noises a house makes when it settles, it was awful. Also,I could swear that I heard noises outside, noises from the trees possibly. It sounded like a tree limb breaking. I tossed and turned for hours. Then just when I was about to fall asleep I heard the garage door open, not the big garage door, the door in the garage to come into the house. That door led to the kitchen, and I totally heard it open, then I heard a set of car keys being set down on the island that is in the kitchen. I froze and was terrified for a few seconds, then all of a sudden I felt this sense of calm come over me. I don’t how or why but I knew, I just knew, that it was my grandpa coming home to let me know that everything was OK. That is the last thing I remember thinking before waking up in the morning. Call it what you want, but that was my grandpa coming back to say hello and to let me know that I was safe. Needless to say, I went back to my hosue after work on Wednesday to get my fan.
I have a group of friends that ghost hunt and they are always asking me to go with them. They know that I believe in the paranormal and would probably love it if I would actually do it but that the question, should I do it? I probably would enjoy myself but I know that I would be terrified. I would be afraid of bringing something unwanted home with me and that is just not worth the risk. There is probably a good chance that I wouldn’t bring something home but what if I did? It would be in my home and then I would have no peace, besides I am more than sure that my husband would not appreciate me bring home some dark entity.
Only one of my friends had this happen to them. It was an awful time for him, it took him many months to finally get rid of it. It didn’t posses him or anything but it disrupted his home life and wrecked havoc on his home. He is not entirely sure what it was exactly but it was something dark and strong enough that he had to call in a medium to help him get it out. Even after he has had to deal with that he stills goes back out to hunt some more. Brave guy. And here I am totally afraid to go even once. Out of all my friends that hunt, for how often and for how long they have been doing this, only one of them has had this happen to them and only once.
Needless to say, I am still debating about it but it is looking like I am probably not going to. They go out a couple times a week, mostly to the places that are haunted around town and even will go on a road trip to find places that they have not been. They have given me until Halloween to decide what I want to do. They do not go out hunting on Halloween but instead throw a party. A costume party to be sure. Every year there is a different theme, this year we are doing a Doctor Who costume party and I am so excited. I love Doctor Who and who doesn’t. One of my friends and I are tasked with the decorations and it has proved to be a very difficult mission. We have been to many party decoration type stores and even have gone to party rental places looking for Doctor Who themed items. If you can believe it, we have found close to nothing. Looks like we are going to be hand making many things. Good thing it’s the beginning of October.
But back to ghost hunting, while writing this post I think I have come to the decision that I am not going to participate in a hunt. I would much rather watch their videos or just watch a show on TV about it. Or, I can only hope to have another experience myself so I can live it first hand.

Could anything be worse than hearing a noise that you don’t know what it is? To me this can be the scariest thing around. Here you are just relaxing and you hear this noise and it’s a noise that you cannot clearly define in a moment so your heart starts beating faster as your mind tries to determine what it is that you are hearing exactly. Does this ever happen to any of you? You don’t have to be just relaxing either, you could be out ghost hunting and hear a noise that you cannot identify, this I feel is a little more worrisome that being in the safety of your own home. Being out somewhere that you are not sure of your surroundings and hearing a noise that you can’t readily tell what it is just makes your mind start going round and round trying to figure it out can be pretty unsettling.
Luckily for me I don’t get into situations where I don’t know my surroundings but when this happens to me I am somewhere that I feel comfortable and hearing noises that I can’t identify quickly, really freaks me out. Just the other night this happened to me, and of course I was by myself. My husband was working late so I was having a book night, where I sit on the couch in my pajamas with the book that I am currently reading, luckily I was not reading a scary book. I heard this noise that sounded mechanical and natural at the same time, if you could imagine that. When I first heard it, I froze while my brain was trying to figure out what it was. Usually, I can determine what things are pretty quick, but this time I got nothing. I was so freaked out but I do go to the dark side first before I finally come back to the light. Which means, that I think things are sinister before I realize that it is really nothing. Which turned out to be the truth in this situation.
It turned out we had a leaky water heater. Imagine how silly I felt when I finally opened up our utility closest. I will not mention the time frame it took to do this but I will say that it was later rather than sooner. We leave in a small, one story house with a crawl space and not a basement so our furnace, water heater and softener are in the actually house in a closet of sorts. So now that I have figured out the noise I heard was just the water heater leaking, I couldn’t believe it, it did not sound like water at all. It sounded nothing like how your faucets will drip water sometimes because I totally would have recognized that sound. I searched all over the house, slowly and stealthy to be sure, searching for the noise. Finally opening up the closest doors and realizing that I was not to be attacked by whatever creature was lurking in there but just seeing the puddle of water on the ground. I felt much better but really dumb for not realizing it earlier.

I don’t know what it is that makes the nighttime more spooky than daytime. Scary things happen during the day just as much as night, but for some reason it is more scary at night. Or it’s just our minds process things differently at night. For instance, my garage is detached from from house, I just go out the door from the kitchen and take about five steps and I am at my garage. I know where everything is, the trees, the grill, our little fence to keep our dog in the yard and all the random things that people keep them in our yards. My husband and I live on a dead end street, we are the fourth from the end. It’s a quiet street, but normal, just like any old street in anywhere USA. I have no issue walking in between the house and the garage during the day, yet I have found that I get a little anxious doing it at night.
There is no reasonable explanation for this, nothing has change, everything is just where I left it when it was light outside. Yet I find myself practically running to the garage when I need to take something out there. I believe that because it is dark and that there are so many shadows that anything can be lurking in the dark. But anything can be lurking in the day as well. It is that we just believe that since it is day that we are safe because we would be able to see things coming, at night though anything is possible. Why does this happen? Why do we let our imaginations take us on scary adventures at night? The answer? Because it is more spooky at night than during the day. There is no getting around that, we have grown up with many things that have told us time and time again that scary things come out at night. Telling ghost stories around a camp fire, any horror movie you have ever watched and scary books all have told us that when bad things happen they happen at night. And usually when it is raining, because I guess the rain makes it more scary.
So that is why people don’t ghost hunt during the day, if people did ghost hunt during the day I would totally be on board. My mind is too active, I see things in things too much at night, it’s a wonder that I can sleep at all. The funny thing is that I can’t sleep during the day, no naps here. I need complete darkness to sleep. It’s crazy because we are most vulnerable at night and at night is when “the bad things happen” but I sleep so soundly at night. During the day when we feel the safest and are ready for anything, I cannot sleep. All of the moments that I have had a paranormal experience have been at night. Yet I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. I would love to have an paranormal experience during the day who knows if that will ever happen.
Until next time guys and gals,
I don’t know if a lot of you would agree but I feel that when we are younger our minds are way more open than when we grow up. Our minds are less filled up with life experiences so we can image that anything is possible. As we grow older and the more things that happen to us in our lives hampers us into not believing in things that we can be prove. I think it is amazing that people like us can get over that and see these paranormal things for what they truly are. Real.
I have had numerous experiences with the paranormal, which I will tell in other blogs, even though I have never gone ghost hunting before. I love watching ghost hunters do their thing but I don’t feel that I would ever do it. One reason is that I would be totally scared out of my mind and I would probably be really annoying to the other people that are there. I would be a complete baby the whole time, so I have decided not to bring that on other people. The other reason is that I would be afraid that something would attach itself to me and follow me home and haunt me in the one place where I feel the safest. I believe there are entities out there that can and are wanting to do that, so I will stick to just watching the experts do it on television.
I also will not allow Ouija boards in my home. I truly believe that they can bring unwanted things from a realm beyond to our own. Most people do not use these boards probably and will probably never be able to contact any spirits but why risk it. These entities that come over to our world are usually never the helpful kind so why do we want them in our lives? I know that I don’t.
I feel that dealing with ghosts, entities, spirits or whatever you want to call them should not be taken lightly. This is serious business and should be handle in a serious manner, so if you feel that you want to undertake this business then you need to fully prepare and study so you know what it is all about. This way you will not attract unwanted visitors and have your life disrupted. So make sure you are fully aware of what you are getting yourself into before it is too late.
